Western fans of JRPGs may at times find themselves low in spirit, as they look longly across the ocean at titles they will never see. But fans rejoice, for Namco Bandi have announced that the acclaimed title Tales of Xillia will at last be yours.
Xillia was released on the Playstation 3 last year in Japan, and received the impressive score of 39/40 from Famitsu. The 13th title in the ‘Tales’ series, the game takes place in a world where monsters, humans and spirits must coexist; meanwhile two countries are at war over the use of the monsters and spirits for their power. The tale itself focusses upon two characters, the young medical student Jude and the mysterious Milla, who is investigating the rise in spirit deaths.
Today at the Namco Bandai Games Fan Conference it was confirmed that Tales of Xillia will indeed be localised for the Western market, coming to Australia, Europe and North America with a release date of August 31, 2012. Meanwhile the game’s sequel – the aptly named Tales of Xillia 2 – is already set to come to Japan in November; this indeed bodes well for the release of more JRPGs for us in the future.
