Two Worlds II Velvet Game of the Year Edition isn’t your average GOTY as we’ve come to expect. It isn’t a run-of-the-mill release with unattractive artwork. Oh no, not this Game of the Year package. TopWare Interactive have given the Two Worlds II Velvet Game of the Year Edition what could be mistaken as a collector’s edition, and in some cases this is actually more beautifully presented than some limited edition runs I’ve seen.
Two Worlds II Velvet Game of the Year Edition comes presented in a collector’s box wrapped in velvet. The console versions received a scarlet red velvet treatment, whilst the PC and Mac version are wrapped in deep black to distinguish between the different formats. On top of the smooth, almost velour texture are debossed lettering from Two Worlds II and TopWare Interactive logos. The finish is completed with metal corner highlights, designed to have an antique brass look. The top of the box features bold relief Two World II logo made from the same real metal material, added at the top of the box.
Popping the box open, you’ll find a copy of Two Worlds II, playing in multi-lingual languages and comes with updated extras including the Pirates of the Flying Fortress expansion. The game disc is shrink wrapped and comes in your standard disc case.
Physical extras include a fold-out double-sided world map with a map of Antaloor mainland on one side and the archipelago on pirates on the other. This map is quite massive, measuring approximately the size of a coffee table completely unfolded. The map is made of glossy, semi-thick paper and will damage so handle this one with care. Underneath the Two Worlds II video game is a collection brass plated pirate head pin, designed to look like the exclusive item available in-game so you can dress just like your avatar counterpart.
On top of the game, there’s also the addition of a bonus disc containing artwork, wallpaper, videos, an extended soundtrack and two additional PvP multiplayer maps. The disc comes packaged separate from the game disc with a specially designed slot in the inside holder.
As stylish as the Two Worlds II Velvet Game of the Year Edition is, there is an inherit flaw in the finish with many colectors complaining about the glue on the hinge becoming unstuck. It’s actually a shame but at the same time as easy enough fix for most collectors. Just be wary that if you are purchasing the Two Worlds II Velvet Game of the Year Edition on the second-hand market, it may be worthwhile to check for this manufacturing defect.
Of course, this is hardly a good enough reason not to purchase the Two Worlds II Velvet Game of the Year Edition. Still available to buy in new condition from Amazon and other online outlets, it’s a highly recommended purchase for collector and role-playing game fans. It isn’t often that a publisher will produce such a stunning collector’s piece (for both North America and Europe) post-launch so get it for a steal while you still can.
