THQ Asia-Pacific Office set to Close

The Australian gaming industry has suffered another blow, as the Melbourne-based office of THQ Asia-Pacific will be closing down. The sales and distribution of THQ titles in Australia will be passed on to wholesale distributor All Interactive Entertainment.

Fans are lamenting the loss of a passionate division that was well-connected with the gaming community, but as MCV Pacific reports Ian Curran of THQ EVP Global Publishing was optimistic of the future of THQ products in the hands of AIE:

“The evolution of our distribution model in the Asia Pacific region will allow us to increase our reach with a lower cost model. AIE is a trusted business partner with whom we have worked with for many years as our distributor in New Zealand.

We believe the company will benefit from AIE’s backing and comprehensive distribution network across Australia.”

AIE will now be handling not only THQ’s distribution, but also that of Capcom. Robert Kingston, Director of All Interactive Entertainment, has expressed the pleasure at connecting with the publisher and working with the portfolio:

“We are delighted to broaden our relationship with a top publisher such as THQ. We look forward to bringing THQ’s highly-anticipated new video game releases and existing game portfolio to our retail network in the territory.”
