According to Gamasutra, Sony plan to open the doors to the online shopping experience that is PlayStation Store this coming Tuesday, May 24th 2011. A memo has been sent out to game developers and publishers of the planned re-opening.

Provided nothing else hits the fan from now until then, gamers will be able to experience publishing partner content including games, expansions and media releases very shortly. To play catch up for lost time caused by the PlayStation Network outage, twice the amount of content will be pushed forward each week for the next two weeks to clear up the current backlog.

Once you have installed the latest 3.61 PSN update and attempt to sign in, you’ll be prompted to update your old PSN password with an all new password. Once completed, you’ll have full access to your PlayStation Network again.

What is turning out to be the biggest hacking incident in history has further snowballed with hackers posting user information taken from a Sony sweepstakes contest.

The information posted came from a 2001 sweepstakes contest conducted by Sony containing 2,500 sweepstakes contestants information allegedly stolen by hackers. Luckily the list did not include credit cards, social security numbers or password details.

Sony have posted an update on their blog about the current status of the PlayStation Network and have apologised on the delay of restoring some services sometime this week.

Following further news that the Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) servers were also breached in April, Sony have decided to conduct further tests and checks on their systems to ensure that all the appropriate protocols are in place to protect users and to restore the trust which has been damaged over the past weeks.

George Hotz can breathe a sigh of relief. His ordeal with suing, courts, lawyers and large corporations are a thing of the past.

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has settled its dispute with hacker George Hotz (GeoHot) out of court reaching a settlement on March 31st, 2011. The settlement requires George Hotz to agree to a permanent injunction.
