At the latest White House press conference the US President Barak Obama has used his power to direct the Center for Disease Control to study the causes (and prevention) of violent behaviour, which includes investigating any relationship it might have with violent media such as movies, television shows and video games. In line with this order, the President also wants $10 million to be allocated by Congress toward studying of violent media and its effects.
“And while year after year, those who oppose even modest gun safety measures have threatened to defund scientific or medical research into the causes of gun violence, I will direct the Centers for Disease Control to go ahead and study the best ways to reduce it — and Congress should fund research into the effects that violent video games have on young minds.” Obama said. “We don’t benefit from ignorance. We don’t benefit from not knowing the science of this epidemic of violence.”
