Today at Esperino, we begin the first in a new interview series affectionately dubbed ‘Fine Tuning’. We’ll be shining the spotlight on music composers and artists working in the video gaming sphere.

More often than not, we applaud the achievements of game developers for outstanding work, but how often do we pause to reflect on the individuals behind the emotional melodies or toe-tapping beats we’re listening to? Although the world in which they work is devoted to sound, these artists are often the most quiet of achievers.

It gives me great pleasure to introduce our first Fine Tuning interviewee, Music Composer and Producer Rich Vreeland, aka Disasterpeace.

Looks have rarely been as deceiving as they are with Fez, with its pixelated world masking its true premise and taxing challenges at the outset. You could be forgiven then, for booting up the game and wincing at the basic environments and turning it off before the first five minutes are over.

This would be a mistake however, as once the set-up is complete and the introductory sequence has done its thing, Fez blossoms into a unique outing which looks to do away with conventions and walks the line between 2D and 3-dimensional gameplay.
