Nintendo have announced the Nintendo 3DS XL (Nintendo 3DS LL in Japan), an update for the existing Nintendo 3DS. The all-new model comes with a 90% larger screen and surprisingly will not incorporate a second dual control pad as many have predicted.

The top screen has been expanded to 4.88 inches, while the bottom also get a upsize to 4.18 inches. Sporting a more rounded design, the Nintendo 3DS XL will be available in three different colours in Japan: white, red & black, and silver and black.

Nintendo Europe will also release the new Nintendo 3DS XL in multiple colours, opting to go with blue, silver and red.

The Nintendo 3DS XL will be available on July 28th 2012 in Europe and Japan, with North America to follow on August 19th, 2012. Each unit will come packed with a 4GB SD card. Japanese models are set to retail for 18,900 yen ($235) in Japan and $199.99 USD in North America.

Oddly enough the Nintendo 3DS XL will not come packaged with an AC adaptor, which will need to be purchased separately.
