Hitman: Absolution has only just been released the past couple of weeks but we’ve already got our first glimpse of the next Hitman title with new concept art being revealed.
IO Interactive have traditional taken the reins with the Hitman franchise, however publisher Square Enix are keen to try a different approach with Square Enix Montreal given the duty of producing the Hitman follow-up.
The first piece of image to be revealed was featured on the developer’s website earlier in the month with what appears to be Agent 47 casually strolling into a courthouse. News reporters and riot police can be seen in the surrounding foreground, and although it isn’t confirmed to be the professional hitman himself, it’s a pretty solid bet it is given Square Enix Montreal are already working on a Hitman title supposedly due for release in the 2013 window.
Square Enix Montreal was only opened early this year with ex-Square Enix London Studios GM Lee Singleton at the helm. It’s reported that numerous IO Interactive developers have joined the team in recent months.
Going forward, Square Enix is aiming to take a leaf out of the Activision handbook which alternative between developers each year to develop the Call of Duty franchise titles.
“You have an IP that has been developed. They will feed off each other, as well as [have] some things that stand out,” he said. “I think with these big franchises it takes a long time to develop just one game. If you can, work a little bit in parallel at least and help each other out.”
Have you played Hitman: Absolution, and have you enjoyed it so far? Would you be keen to see more Hitman titles readily released? I’m sure you’d prefer that over a six year gap in-between titles.
