BioWare and EA have hailed Mass Effect 3 as a critical success with 3.5 million units shipped to retailers worldwide in its opening week, making Mass Effect 3 the biggest entertainment launch so far for 2012.
“We have been truly humbled by the amazing response from fans and critics for Mass Effect 3,” said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Co-Founder of BioWare and General Manager of EA’s BioWare Label. “The game is a gripping, engaging experience where the decisions and choices you make will truly stay with you for the months and years ahead. We are all incredibly proud of Casey Hudson and the teams in Edmonton and Montreal for delivering the best game BioWare has ever made.”
Critics have embraced the game with a warm reception with 30 perfect scores awarded thus far and Metacritic ranking Mass Effect 3 at 94, 92 and 91 on Xbox 360, Windows PC, and PlayStation 3 respectively.
EA’s John Riccitiello is obviously happy with the sales figures, selling 890,000 units in North America alone in the first 24 hours. “We anticipated it doing well, so we’re happy,” said Riccitiello.
Taking into account that retailer GAME in the United Kingdom didn’t stock Mass Effect 3 and cancelled existing pre-orders, I’d be pretty happy with the results if I were EA as well.
