Some rather interesting reading material was made available to media during the Sony Press Conference held over the weekend in regards to the returning of the PlayStation Network service.

How Sony PlayStation Network Was Hacked
A hand-out was given illustrating in diagrams how the hackers managed to infiltrate PSN. For those that are unable to follow the diagram clearly, the intruder (or intruders) gained access by exploiting a vulnerability in the application server. Utilising a communication tool, a route was established giving them access to the database server, along with the 75 million plus user account details contained within the server.

PSN Account Breakdown
Another flyer shown above detailed the figure breakdown of PlayStation Network users across countries. The United States make up the bulk of PSN with 31 million+ users with the United Kingdom following behind at approximately 9.2 million users.

Sony‘s CEO Kazuo Hirai made mention during the Press Conference that approximately 10 million PlayStation Network users have a credit card attached to their account, approximately 1 in 8 registered PSN users. The Press Conference ended in traditional hyped media style with a scrum of photographers getting in the last happy snaps of Kazuo Hirai and guests before they exited the event.
