Lollipop Chainsaw. Seriously, that’s the name of Grasshopper Manufacture newest title in the works.
With Suda 51 (Shadows of the Damned, No More Heroes) serving as Creative Director and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill) developing the soundtrack, there’s a lot to look forward to in this hack ‘n slash action title.
Lollipop Chainsaw main character is a teenage girl named Juliet Starling. On her 18th birthday, Juliet sets off to meet her boyfriend (boo!) at San Romero High School. What she discovers is a zombie infestation. Luckily Juliet comes from a lineage of zombie hunters so with chainsaw in hand, she sets about mowing down the zombie outbreak.
Not just a zombie hunter, Juliet is also a cheerleader. Dressed in her cheerfully skimpy outfit, players will be able to perform cheerleader-inspired acrobatic skills to exterminate the zombie horde.
This isn’t your standard zombie killfest title. Speaking with 1UP, Suda 51 did reveal the title is not meant to be a gory blood soaked adventure.
“Instead of sprays of blood, we have the zombies emitting bursts of pink light,” Suda said. “When it comes to gore, we can certainly go that way if we want, but we wanted to give the game more of a ‘pop’ feel.”
Lollipop Chainsaw is currently in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with Kadokawa Games publishing the title Japan.
