E3 2011: Nintendo Details Mario Kart 3DS Features; Release Date: End Of 2011

As expected at E3 2011, Nintendo revealed more details on the latest incarnation of Mario Kart for the Nintendo 3DS.

Reggie Fils-Aime, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo America took to the stage announcing five key games to come out for the Nintendo 3DS.

“First off the line is Mario Kart. It’s a game you’ve enjoyed for years, but now its a tricked out version you haven’t driven before.” said Reggie Fils-Aime.

A short presentation was shown of Mario and Co. as they raced around various circuits and racing tracks. At first, it felt as if the demo was for the Nintendo DS version of Mario Kart until we see Mario approach a ramp and accelerate off the track transforming from a kart into a glider vehicle.

The inclusion of a glider to Mario Kart 3DS adds an extra dimension to the gameplay with players able to take advantage or a quick lead by finding a perfect sweet spot when landing.

Not only are players able to take to the sky but for the first time in a Mario Kart title, players can venture beneath the surface and dive right into the water for a completely submerged racing experience.

The kart adapts to the change in driving condition adopting a propeller motor spraying out bubbles as you race.

The final key feature of Mario Kart on the Nintendo 3DS is the ability to fully customise your vehicle. Switch out the tyres, change the chassis and other features yet to be fully revealed. Make your vehicle your very own, just the way you always imagined your kart should be.
