Diablo III Collector’s Edition is an impressive package but that’s hardly a surprise as we’ve all come to expect this level of detail from Blizzard branded collectibles. Housed in an oversized limited edition package, the Diablo III Collector’s Edition oozes quality and value for money extras many who miss out on this initial batch will still be searching for years from now.
Adopting the same oversized, rigid cardboard design of previous Blizzard special editions with a top that easily slides off. Off-white in colour, embossed detailing features on the outer box from the lettering on the front through to the trademark demon on the inner box design.
Each piece inside is neatly held in place with specially made slots to prevent damage. It isn’t the first time Blizzard Entertainment have packaged products in this fashion and given it’s been effective up until now, there’s hardly a reason to change.
A copy of Diablo III for PC or Mac is included with instruction manual and redeemable Collector’s Edition codes printed on the front cover. The secondary disc is a Behind the Scenes Blu-ray and DVD two-disc set exclusive to the Diablo III Collector’s Edition. Learn about the development process with over an hour of interviews with artists, writers, programmers, designers, musicians and animators as they detail bringing the world of Sanctuary to life.
Cross-promotion features heavily with exclusive unlockable items available across the Blizzard stable for Diablo III, World of Warcraft and StarCraft II. To share the gift of Blizzard, a selection of Guest Passes for World of Warcraft and Diablo III are also included to give away to friends and family.
Treating your ears to audio delights is a comprehensive Diablo III original soundtrack featuring twenty four tracks from the game. The music CD comes in a tri-fold holder with pull-out leaflet with the credits behind the musical composition. Coated in a matte finish for durability, the casing feels of amazingly high quality to the touch.
A common fixture in Collector’s Edition are artbooks and even something so generic isn’t neglected by Blizzard. The Art of Diablo is a 208-Page hardcover artbook that catalogues stunning pieces of developmental art from early concepts right through to 3D rendered pieces.
Saving the best for last is the unique and creative Diablo Skull holder with matching 4GB USB Soulstone. Crafted to perfect detail in the shape of Diablo’s skull, the SoulStone magnetically slots into place, right between the eyes of the mammoth beast. Packed in the USB drive are pre-loaded copies of Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, with the codes to access the content found on an accompanying redeemable card.
Diablo III Collector’s Edition has sold massive amount of copies over the world but due to unforeseeable circumstances here in Australia, not as many copies of the Collector’s Edition were readily available. The past weeks has seen the price of Diablo III CE nearly double via online auction. If history is anything to go by, you’d be wise to snap up your copy rather than later.
