Despite any attempts by Mr. Fisher to sneak his way past, fans are eagerly keeping an eye out for the seventh instalment in his shadowy assassination series; Splinter Cell Blacklist. The latest news from Ubisoft brings with it a whole swag of spy goodies, with the announcement of a significant slew of special edition bundles for Australia and EMEA regions – The Upper Echelon Edition, Ultimatum Edition, 5th Freedom Edition, and the 5th Freedom Silver Edition.
Although we in the Western World certainly appreciate a more equal standing between men and women compared with that of days gone by, it is still nonetheless important for us to take the time to consider what more we can do. In terms of the gaming world the subject of women’s roles in both the industry and the games themselves has been a hot topic as of late; so to follow the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th we to take a look at our industry, some of the concern women face today in games, and the work that is being done to address it.

“There aren’t enough shooters” Said no one ever.
Of all the gaming genres we have to choose from these days, few are as overflowing with titles as the ever-popular shooter category. Zombie Studios, the folks behind the free to play Blacklight: Retribution, have once again charged into the brimming market, this time with Special Forces: Team X for Steam and XBLA. Focusing solely on multiplayer action, this cell-shaded shooter puts a promising new spin on map-selection and throws killer dobermans around like it’s nobody’s business; yet even with all its attempts at variety, can it really differentiate itself as something special or is it just another cover-based gun game trying to find space behind an already-crowded concrete barrier?
It appears that Sony are making use of the latest colours in the Playstation lineup to pay tribute to our favourite Greek, for the upcoming game God of War: Ascension. first a few days ago with a console as red as our furious friend’s tattoos in North America’s Legacy Bundle, and now it has just been announced that Europe will be seeing a special edition PS3 bundle complete with a cool white console reminiscent of Kratos’ ash-white skin. Plus, it comes with the specially themed controller that matches the golden hues of the latest game!
Thanks to the development of the 3DS Castlevania game Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, it has been revealed that a full HD version of Mirror of Fate for home consoles could be just around the corner. Dave Cox, the Head of UK Studio at Konami, has revealed that they would “absolutely” consider upgrading the game if the Nintendo 3DS version proved popular.

Sony Entertainment Asia have announced a cool new hue for the Playstation Vita set to hit stores later this month: Ice Silver. The new Vita style appears to be the same as the Wifi console used in the Assassin’s Creed: Liberation bundle, but this time without a deadly assassin hiding in the box. In addition to being up for preorder in its solo form, the Ice Silver Vita is available with some extras as part of Playstation Asia’s Chinese New Year specials, along with deals on the latest Red and Blue variations of the PS Vita and PS3 Slim Console.
