Atlus Faithful Receive A Mysterious Persona 2: Innocent Sin Tease?
If you subscribe to Atlus Faithful newsletter service, you may have received a rather strange email dated June 23rd, 1999.
You can check out the email for yourself:
At first when I saw this newsletter, I was going to instantly delete it but given Atlus’ history of clever marketing I decided to dig a little to see what I could uncover.
In the header there is a line that reads ‘This Week in News: Absolutely no new games release today’. A search through the annals of history for this particular date turns up nothing Atlus related.
However dig a little further and you’ll discover Persona 2: Innocent Sin was released in Japan on June 24th 1999, one day after the headline.
A remake of Persona 2: Innocent Sin did hit shelves in Japan recently on April 14th, 2011 so its safe to conclude a port for the sequel in the Persona series could be on its way to North America and hopefully Europe as well.
Persona 2: Innocent Sin never received a release outside of Japan due to controversial subject matters addressed in the game that includes a ‘Hitler’ character and option of a homosexual relationship between the protagonist and another male character.
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, the second chapter did make its way across to the PlayStation One back in November 30th, 2000. We can only hope the rumour is true and Persona 2: Innocent Sin will be headed to the english speaking so gamers can bridge the gap between the two storylines.
