Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood “Saga Box” Steelbook Unboxing

Back in 2010, the release of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood bought with it a new concept in the Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood “Saga Box” Steelbook case. Not a well known collectible, the affectionately dubbed “Saga Box” was a bonus gift with purchase for those who secured their copy of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood through selected retailers, and strictly while stocks were available.

How the steelbook case came about offers a deeper appreciation and insight into the development process from inception into production. Conceived locally at Ubisoft Australia’s Sydney office by Martin Lefrancois, Ubisoft Australia’s trade marketing manager at the time.

With the franchise expanding into a third release, the concept came from the idea that customers purchasing Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood may like a place to store all their AC titles in the one “Saga Box”, combating the never-ending battle for shelf space collectors are constantly faced with. Unlike earlier Steelbook cases where the designs are simply reproduction taken from the pack art itself, Ubisoft Australia wanted the art for the Steelbook to be a clean design; free of logos, with each of the three Assassin’s Creed title (at the time) being represented.

In addition to releasing the Steelbook in Australia, a sample of the Steelbook was also sent to Ubisoft EMEA, the head office based in Paris. Taking a liking to the design and concept, it was also offered as a gift with purchase for the PC version of Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood through selected European retailers.

It is unclear whether the EU version is identical to the one offered in Australia (as pictured), but if any of our European readers recognise it or can offer more information, please let us know.

Unfortunately the artwork used on the Steelbook is not exclusive to the “Saga Box”, however having chosen the most iconic art from each series does distinguish itself as one of the more finer Assassin’s Creed collectibles created thus far.
