It’s almost the holiday season, and for video game fans, that means lots of new games to look forward to. The video game conferences are over, the release dates have been set, we’ve checked out all the game reviews— all that’s left to do is make the ultimate gamer’s wish list.
There are a ton of new games coming out this season, so let’s take a look at some of the biggest ones to look for.
Assassin’s Creed III
Assassin’s Creed, released at the end of October is one of the most anticipated game releases of this year. The game is set in Revolutionary War-era America and players will be meeting a new assassin in this game, Connor. The newest addition to the game series features not only stunning graphics, true-to-life renderings of historical buildings but also brand new aspects to the game play. The unique Assassin’s Creed movement style is back and better than ever in this new game. Players will have more movement options in the open spaces of the American Northeast. There is also new, expanded two-weapon fighting. Perhaps the most exciting aspect to the newest game in the Assassin’s Creed series is the naval battles. Players can command full naval war ships, take them out to sea to battle with the enemy.
If your taste is more first-person shooter, look no further than Halo 4. This extremely popular series has just released its newest addition, and it is bringing the beloved Master Chief back. The game is set after Master Chief comes to from his deep freeze aboard the Forward Unto Dawn. The newest game features some truly incredible graphics, as well as Halo 4’s biggest strength, the gun capability. The new weapons in this game follow Halo’s tradition of excellent weapon harmony. Every situation has a perfect weapon and firing style. Not to mention, there are some very cool new aliens to blow up. The story is more open-ended than its predecessors, which is good not only for extending the first play through, but also for repeat plays.
LittleBigPlanet Karting, which comes out at the beginning of November, is a great option if you’re looking for something a little more lighthearted. The new game in the popular series takes the customizability of the LBP series and the fun of a simple kart racing game to make a very enjoyable family-friendly game, or a game for more casual gamers. Players can still customize their sackboy or sackgirl with stickers, costumes and hairdos, but now players can also have fun with karts. With the ability to add crazy weapons, colors and paint jobs to their vehicles. The tracks themselves also stay true to the cheeky style of LBP with maddening corners and cool extras players can pick up along the way.
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale
In the style (and perhaps looking to follow in the success of) Marvel VS Capcom, Playstation AllStars comes out November 20. The game is a fairly simple head-to-head fighter, and pits some of Playstation’s beloved characters against each other. Players can choose from characters like Ratchet and Clank, Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series.
